A tour of our Data Logistics Platform

We often bring you news on emerging trends in live streaming, such as the rise of niche streaming platforms, the value of real-time subtitles and dubbing for live content, or the significant growth in sports channels. But in this article, we want to focus on our technology, System73, our approach to live streaming, and take a tour of our Data Logistics Platform where the magic really happens. System73 demonstrates tangible results, and improvements on previous content delivery strategies, day after day, as our proactive and automated solutions work behind the scenes to bring viewers around the world flawless content and the highest possible QoE. And one huge plus? System73 is free!

Where traditional streaming methods fail

At System73, our approach to live streaming sidesteps traditional content delivery methods. Our years of experience have taught us that successful streams, and therefore successful viewing experiences, require prior analysis, measurement and, above all, visibility. Despite the vast size of the internet, content delivery strategies are often limited by the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). The BGP was designed to route data efficiently between autonomous systems, but it lacks the contextual awareness needed for live streaming. It fails to account for real-time network conditions or viewer experience, which means content may be sent down congested or suboptimal routes, resulting in buffering, latency, or outages.

In an attempt to overcome BGP’s limitations, some streaming providers turn to what’s known as the “spray and pray” method. This involves flooding the network with data streams in the hope that at least one will arrive quickly and cleanly. Now, while this brute-force approach may maximize throughput, it sacrifices precision and efficiency. It can create unnecessary congestion and increase operational costs, and still doesn’t guarantee consistent QoE for end users. At System73, rather than overwhelming the network, our Data Logistics Platform continuously analyzes real-time network conditions and intelligently routes traffic based on performance, not just availability. This results in streams that are delivered with purpose and focused on eliminating waste.

Our approach to live streaming

At System73, we have proven that successful live streaming starts with unprecedented, full-spectrum visibility. That means understanding what’s happening across the open internet, across the entire delivery chain, from source to end user (first, middle and last mile). While traditional CDNs often operate reactively and often blindly, our approach is rooted in real-time, application-specific data that gives us a complete overview of how content is moving, where it is slowing down, and how to fix issues before they begin to affect the viewer experience. This process is managed by our Data Logistics Platform, with the help of Edge Analytics and Edge Intelligence.

Edge Intelligence uses data gathered by Edge Analytics to assess network conditions and make proactive, automated decisions that improve content delivery in real time. Our system builds optimized delivery paths based on current network conditions, and automatically optimizes the route if potential congestion is detected. This involves constructing intelligent, AI-driven peer-to-peer, centrally orchestrated broadcast trees that offload traffic from congested routes and make better use of available capacity. The result is a faster, more efficient delivery model that maintains high resolution for up to 94% of users, even in hard-to-reach areas.

System73’s proven success

Integrating our Data Logistics Platform into your current content delivery is free of charge. We’ll show you exactly how Edge Analytics gathers vital data and contextualizes it on our state-of-the-art Dashboard, depending on the parameters selected by each customer. This real-time audience data includes average buffer health, filling ratio, rebuffering ratio, total plays, average audience, sessions by browser, operating system, and connection type. It therefore allows you to identify potential congestion and bottlenecks in the network and take immediate action to ensure fast and flawless quality of experience on users’ end devices.

Fed with our Analytics data, Edge Intelligence then optimizes live streams by establishing centralized peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, ensuring the optimal bitrate for every user’s device, reducing dependence on traditional CDNs and edge servers, and scaling the network as needed. This solution has led to excellent results for current customers, including up to 94% of viewers consistently at the highest resolution for their device, up to 12% increase in viewing time and up to 65% savings in delivery costs overall. Our customers, from Peru to Jordan, consistently report improvements in streaming quality, even in areas with low infrastructural support where traditional delivery methods typically struggle.

System73 ensures resilient, high-quality streaming experiences, even in markets where latency and congestion would otherwise compromise performance.
